Castle Ward

Castle Ward
The romantic Strangford Lough setting hints at the real life love story so intrinsic to the look and feel of this mid-Georgian mansion.

Unable to decide on one architectural style, aristocrat Bernard Ward and his wife Anne agreed she take a gothic approach while he opted for a more conventional classical design.

The result is a house of two halves, with Anne's boudoir ceiling resembling a draped lace handkerchief and Bernard's stuffed squirrel tableaux adding whimsy to the Morning Room.

The exterior is all the more stunning with its double-sided facades an ever present reminder of this couple's successful compromise.

The 820 acre estate is marked with woodland, lakeside and parkland walks and includes the Strangford Lough Wildlife Centre.

Picnic benches provide the perfect spot to savour sandwiches and tea overlooking the tranquil Lough.

And the Potter's Cottage can be booked for overnight stays if you can't bear to tear yourself away from this little piece of paradise.

We dare you not to fall in love...
