Eisenhower Pier

  Bangor, Co. Down      (+44) (0)28 9127 0069     more than a year ago
Bangor's north pier was renamed in 2005 by Mary-Jean Eisenhower, granddaughter of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, in commemoration of the town's crucial role in WW2.

It was from here that the future US President sent off hundreds of Allied ships gathered in Bangor Bay before the D-Day Liberation of Europe.

Take a walk along the pier from the carved wooden plaque at the side of the lifeboat house to the colourful mosaic at the end depicting this historic event.

You might also spot a colony of rare black guillemots, nicknamed the Bangor Penguins, who have made their home under the central pier.
