Their most famous sons were Thomas Andrews, Titanic's Chief Designer who went down with the ship, and Thomas' brother John Miller Andrews who served as Northern Ireland's second Prime Minister. The linen connections go back even further; John Andrews, their grandfather, founded Comber Mill in 1863 following the cotton shortage resulting from the American Civil War.
