The story of RMS Titanic has transcended into modern folklore, its very name instantly recognisable throughout the world. And now Belfast, the city where she was built, has commemorated its connection with the opening of Titanic Belfast, the world's largest Titanic-themed visitor attraction. After several years of planning and construction, the iconic building's April 2012 launch coincides with the centenary of the ship's ill-fated maiden voyage.
No other city in the world but Belfast can lay claim to having lived beneath its magnificent shadow for so long. The emerging superstructure, on slipway No. 3, dominated East Belfast's Harland & Wolff shipyard for just over two years, from the moment its keel was laid in March 1909 to its launch on 31 May 1911.
Only the cold North Atlantic seabed has been its home for longer – from the early hours of April 15 1912 when the mighty ship collided with an iceberg and came to its final resting place.
April's Titanic Belfast Festival - now an annual fixture on the city's calendar of events - celebrates and commemorates our connection with this grand liner by hosting tours, talks, exhibitions and much, much more.
And beyond the Festival, there are plenty more Titanic-related activities and locations worthy of your patronage. To find out more, click here and dive into our listings to discover Belfast's best Titanic-inspired events, activities and attractions.
