Living Tours Belfast
Starting at the Belfast Welcome Centre, Sir Arthur Chichester - complete with dubloons and cape - beckons travellers down the 'magic stairs' (aka escalator) and across to the City Hall, all the while regailing us with stories from his 17th Century heyday as Ireland's Lord Deputy.
At the City Hall, two 19th Century female millworkers share equally engaging chit chat before serving everyone tea and soda bread at a nearby cafe. Next, it's onto Custom House Square where two shipyard workers talk about the Titanic and their workforce's potent political divide, before being interrupted by a 'lady of the night' from the same heady era.
Belfast-born literary and sporting heroes CS Lewis and George Best also pop up, and the tour culminates with a mobile-toting 21st Century buinesswomen reminding us that Belfast has been voted 2nd best UK city for short-breaks.
This quirky concept, with enthusiastic young actors and a sprinkling of audience participation, brings the city's centuries and its people to life.
