Shankill Graveyard

  Shankill Rd      (+44) (0)28 9027 0296     more than a year ago
Plague victims and paupers in unmarked mass graves are among the many people buried at this ancient site, next to the shamrock-shaped St. Matthew's Church of Ireland. Said to be over 1000 years old, burials stopped in 1866 and the overgrown space was taken over 90 years later by (what is now) Belfast City Council. Take time to stop at this Garden of Rest and view the life-size statue of Queen Victoria, and remaining headstones - the oldest of which dates back to 1685.
