Amid the brash glitz of the city's more familiar restaurants sits this intimate brasserie filled with dusky candlelight, muted tones and a devoted clientele. Popular with the pre-theatre crowd and romantic couples, its relaxed, homely vibe will never go out of fashion. Game and fish dishes are the chef's speciality - try the pan-fried Donegal salmon with mussels and fennel.

Sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce was something I had never heard of before our visit to Beatrice Kennedys, but our family had to try it and we found it to be the best ever. You made our visit to Belfast memorable.
My husband and I ate here at 8pm on a Friday in Feb.08 - never again! We were seated so close to the adjacent table that there was no privacy whatso ever. The waitress brought our drinks after the starter arrived (35 minutes after ordering) The table was so small that there was no room for a water jug. Main course was served 30 mins after the starter was cleared and then we sat in front of empty plates for a further 30 mins. A waitress eventually cleared them away but didn't ask about desserts - 10 minutes later another waitress asked if we would like to see the dessert menu but by now we were so desperate to escape that we just asked for the bill. After 5 further minutes a different waitress asked if we would like to see the dessert menu - again we requested just the bill please. When the bill arrived the waitress - at her most attentive of all her appearences of the night explained at length how we could press various buttons on the cash machine to leave a tip - twice at high volume she queired our decision not to do so. At this stage I nearly stood and announced to anyone downstairs in the restaurant who remained unaware that we were not leaving a tip the reasons for not doing so. The tables aren't intimate but crowded, the place smelt of burnt fat, the food was unremarkable the service slow and one got the feeling that the 'regular loyal clientel' described in the restaurant reviews must be served by different staff from a different menu than we were privvy to that evening - either that of they are used to lower eating standards than we are.
This is my second visit to Beatrice Kennedys, both times the food has astounded me in quality, flavour, and imagination. For vegetarian options (it has its own veggie menu!) it is unrivalled in the whole of N.Ireland - and the chef should be proud of himself. This place has to be visited.
