The modern history of Derry is synonymous with Bloody Sunday, and it is this aspect of the city's story that has inspired the introduction of the Free Derry Tours. Told by the same people who live in the Bogside - site of the Bloody Sunday atrocity - and saw the events at first hand, these tours are as authentic as you can get. The contemporary context is set with the 17th Century Siege of Derry, 1840s Famine and 1919-21 Irish War of Independence before going into the city's Civil Rights Campaign and the following events that shaped the Troubles and continuing Peace Process. The tour route takes in Free Derry Corner, Derry's Walls, the Bloody Sunday Monument, H-Block Hunger Strike Monument and Bogside Murals. Other Specialist Tours feature Derry's early Christian history, Murals & Monuments, The Unionist Perspective and trips to neighbouring Donegal and the Antrim Coast. Free Derry Tours leave twice daily year-round at 10:00 & 14:00 from the Museum of Free Derry, Glenfada Park, Rossville St., Bogside. Specialist tours - and tours in Irish, Spanish, French, German and Italian - can be arranged on request.
