The Diament empire is responsible for some of the best hotels in the Katowice region, and this one is the jewel in their crown. Set inside a fairytale 19th century tenement it's almost possible to imagine Mr. Kipling carving the façade out of marzipan. But while this looks like a piece of history from the outside, from the inside it stands out as one of the most modern hotels in the city. Rooms come decorated in pinkish, reddish tones, and feature amenities such as free internet, satellite TV and spacious bathrooms. The newly-anointed fourth floor features rooms with a higher standard and that coveted new-hotel smell.

This is what happens when you push a 60s tower block to its side, stretch it and then paint it green – you’d be correct in thinking the Hotel Łabędy doesn’t look too foxy from the outside. The good news is that it’s been given a decent makeover, and the ‘comfort plus’ rooms are an absolute bargain. They’re not going to inspire flights of poetic fancy, but they will allow you a good nights rest without the risk of bed bugs, burglary or buggery. Find newly fitted bathrooms, freshly painted rooms and fittings that look like they were unpacked the previous week; fridge and internet are available for an extra investment. A spa is now open as well, offering massages and other pamperments.
