When it comes to hotels Bydgoszcz still lags way behind Poland’s more high profile cities, and this becomes painfully apparent if you’re the sort of person accustomed to the five star treatment. None of the big chains have landed in Bydgoszcz, though Qubus will be arriving shortly, as will an unspecified boutique effort. In the meantime the Pod Orłem is recognized as hands down the most salubrious choice. Many of the towns hotels effect the look of Soviet leftovers, and though you’ll find them scrubbed religiously clean don’t expect to enjoy too many poetic visions. Alarmingly, you’ll also find many reception staff incapable of speaking English, so brush up on some pigeon Polish before arrival.
