Tucked behind the main drag, ul. Długa, this formal looking restaurant announces itself with a gramophone in the entrance hall and local girls dressed in pink peasant smocks. But what looks like just another traditional eatery proves so much more, with a menu dedicated to Poland’s lost eastern territories (the bits of Lithuania and Ukraine that were shaved off as part of the great WWII swindle). On offer are such delicacies such as Lwowian soup, Lithuanian potato zeppelins (try them), and a bigos made to a recipe carried way down from the 16th century.

BTW, you mention "bits of Lithuania and Ukraine that were shaved off as part of the great WWII swindle." Those "bits," which amounted to 40% of pre-war Poland's overall size. (PS, please don't forget the historical Belarussian lands in these "bits.") Granted, former German lands were gained in the West, but net-net, Poland lost considerable territory after the war. I agree, it was quite the geographic swindle.
The only problem with this restaurant is that not all of the menu items are available. It took me several attempts with the waitress to find something on the menu that I wanted that they actually had that day. I asked her if she remembered what restaurants were like back in the Polish People's Republic, but alas, she didn't (because it was precisely like this). I told her my dinner at the Kresowa was a trip down memory lane. They're trying, however.
