Wigilia - Polish Christmas Eve

As opposed to the west the highlight of the Scrooge season is Christmas Eve, and as night settles you’ll find shop doors bolting fast and frantically as people scurry back to make it home. As in most countries, the focal point of the celebration is the meal (Wigilia), with festivities officially launched the moment the first star appears in the sky. Technically speaking the consumption of alcohol is a no-no, though Poles being Poles you’ll find more less traditional families generously turning a blind eye on this one.
