John Paul II Krakow Balice International Airport [Port Lotniczy Kraków Balice im. Jana Pawła II]

Some 17km west of the city centre, John Paul II Kraków Balice Airport (Port lotniczy w Krakowie Balicach imienia Jana Pawła II) is small, modern and easy to navigate, though amenities are limited. Here you’ll find a 24hr currency exchange and a clutch of ATMs (bankomat), as well as a helpful tourist information point and 24hr left luggage office (9zł).

The best way to get to and from the airport to the Old Town is generally by train, however during Euro 2012 additional buses will be running which may be your best option; unfortunately the numbers and schedukles weren't yet known at press time.

To stick to the train, a free bus directly outside both the international and domestic terminals takes passengers the short distance to the train-stop and can also be used for travelling between the two terminals. Train tickets are purchased from the conductor on board the train, and cost 10zł. If leaving from Kraków Głowny train station, departures (odjazdy) to Balice Airport are frequent from Track 1; buy your ticket from machines on the platform or on board for no extra fee. Trains from the airport run frequently between 05:00 and 23:00. After that there you're left with night bus 902 which departs at 23:26, 00:56 and 02:26; and then you're down to taxis.

Taxis stand outside the main entrance to the airport and should charge between 55-75zł to make the journey into the city centre. Note that the price goes up by 50% between 22:00 and 06:00.
