The National Museum was granted its first statute in 1883 and was created as a municipal institution to avoid control by the then occupying powers in Vienna. The museum's mission is to protect the nation's legacy by promoting world and Polish art particularly that of the Krakow artistic community. It is Krakow's if not Poland's most impressive museum with impressive permanent exhibitions which you can read about in our 'what to see' section, which are displayed alongside an ever-changing calendar of temporary exhibitions.
Admission 10/5zł.
