Named after a village near Kraków known for its colourful houses, U Zalipianek's bright, traditional floral patterns are juxtaposed with the curmudgeony old-timers occupying the seats. More than likely most of the conversations revolve around crappy pensions and the good old days when everybody had a job. Thus the clients cheerfully pay 1zł for the coat check while in a nod to convention customers no longer have to pay for the toilet. Still worth a visit for the unique and amusing atmosphere - especially when the summer terrace is open - the budget menu consists of all the Polish faves, though they're unlikely to have your first choice.

My Wife and I visited the U ZALIPIANEK on 16th March 2011 on arrival the restaurant looked as described but as we sat down, Rap music was plying from speakers on the bar, as we discovered it was from a radio, not very suitable for the type of restaurant. We ordered drinks and food. I then went to use the toilet and as I entered the toilet I was followed by an angry woman who spoke to me in Poish which I did not understand and I indicated this, she then pointed to a sign on the door which said 1 zloty (Polish money) I made it clear I was eating in the restaurant and made for the toilet and she stood in front of me shouting to get out. I understand that restaurants in Krakow charging for non customers, but we were customers. I was angry and paid for the drinks which we had started and walked out. I would not recommend this restaurant. I will also post a review on Trip Advisor. I hope you note these comments.
