Quite an admirable and ambitious establishment, Papuamu goes out of its way like no other place in Kraków to be health-conscious, environmentally conscious and community conscious. All-natural, slow food recipes use only fresh, locally grown, fair-trade ingredients to create nutritious, healthy meals. The result is not strictly vegetarian (but the meats are ecological too) and involves lots of grains, beans and seasonal veggies served in large portions for a fantastic value. The interior is sparse and simple, and it's unclear whether the unique location - as the only restaurant currently near the Schindler Factory - will be a help or a hindrance to such a niche establishment. Here's hoping it's the former.

I had a really nice lunch there today after visiting the Schindler museum about 20 metres away. I arrived about 10 minutes before noon and the main courses wern't ready until close to 1pm but the girl working there was friendly and chatty so not really a problem. The beer is all local brewary stuff and I had an excellent bottle of Porter followed by a bottle of local Pilsner. I'm not sure about the "vegetarian" angle as the two main items on the menu were lamb and duck. I had the chicken soup and the duck both of which were excellent.
Fantastic food- -and great prices. Sure beats vegetarian restaurants in New York!
