While also operating a year-round budget buffet in the gorgeous garden, Chimera's primary pleasures are to be partaken of underground in its sumptuous cellars. Elegant and ethereal with a surrealist sense of humour amidst the secessionist decor, this subterranean charmer is favoured by local art mavens and academic owls dining on a range of Polish game options (geese, rabbit, deer) unveiled from beneath silver serving domes at the table. Splendid.

Back in my hoboing days, when their Salad Bar was still downstairs and I didn''t have two groszy to rub together, I used to come here, pinch the free baked potatoes they still provide in the fireplace, and enjoy the warm atmosphere and free food. Things are a bit more upscale now, but the free potatoes and ability to disappear into the corners remain.

We went to Chimera last week it was fantastic! The food was delicious and the service was very good. I had the boiled beef and horseradish which was very tender and tasty. My husband had the pork with wild mushroom sauce once again tender and the flavour of the pork went well with the sauce.

I went to the Chimera twice: The first time with friends and it was quite nice with good food. The second time with my parents and it was just gross. My wife's venison rather seemed to be a raw piece of something indefinable, my father's goose tasted like ordinary beef taken from the worse parts of the animal. Discussions with the staff did not help. I will certainly never go there again.
