It’s the pungent odour of the unwashed student that may be the pervasive memory, though that’s not to say we don’t like it. There’s not much to Szafa, a basic upstairs hall decorated with some boozy memorabilia and stuff from the local art school, but memorable nights prove as common as they are long. All our visits have coincided with some battle of the bands evening, meaning angry vegan girls in Doc Martens being chatted up by dreadlocked dropouts; good fun if you like that sort of thing.

I must admit I was expecting the worst from this review but for me it was a million miles away from the description that appears in the guide. I was here around 6pm and although there were occasional young people popping in and out there wasn't the slight whiff of eau de Studente 2012. I cant help but feeling it's the reviewer that's a bit sniffy.Yes there is one floor (the upper) to the place and its a little hard to find being set back from the road behind a fruit and veg store. It actually reminded me of a nice British bar or even a French bistro type place Some comfortable armchairs to crash out in or a number of bistro style tables and chairs. Nice ambience and enjoyed a few Okocim's accompanied by the superb Sergeant Pepper (that's not the bar man) followed by Rubber Soul (not the fish of the day). I liked it and will definitely be heading back.
