Considering this is Poland’s third largest city, Łódź is a bit of an under-achiever when it comes to hotel choice. Yet to be blessed with a symphony of skyscraping five stars the majority of the city’s hotels remain old, knackered and for the most part scuzzy. On top of that, foreigners here are a relatively recent import, and as such there’s no guarantee you’ll find English spoken at reception. The good news is the situation is improving, slowly, and recent developments include the unveiling of a Campanile and Qubus, as well as smaller boutique style efforts like Cud Miód and Revelo. On top of that Andels are due to open in the Manufaktura complex within the next year, while the Grand is in line for a five star makeover courtesy of the Likus group. Hotels will list their rate in either local currency, dollars or euros. Either way your bill will be calculated using the exchange rate of the day and presented to you in złoty.
