Woah, here's a museum that makes science fun, and in a way that rather than ordering you to ‘keep away from the glass’, actively encourages visitors to ‘push’, ‘touch’ and ‘enter’. The experiments visitors get to play around with are the brainchild of Polish scientists and students, and revolve around ideas of light, sound, anatomy, nature and new discoveries. The space takes up 1,200m2 of the Manufaktura complex, and also features a wing designated for temporary exhibits from Polish and European institutions. Patrons include Łódź University and the Łódź Technical University. Your visit should take approximately 80 minutes, during which time you’ll wander through six (though possibly more depending on the exhibits) enclosed rooms, all of which come centred around a large open space. But the really clever bit is the way this educational centre is split into ‘night’ and ‘day’ – you’ll find all the mad light experiments taking place in the ‘night’ area. Then, there’s also a ‘cosmic tunnel’, an area devoted to developing your senses of smell, hearing and touch without using your vision, an interactive exhibit that will leave you in no doubt as to the laws of Physics, as well as ‘Arena Laser Games’, which is exactly what it says on the tin - a laser quest style game where you get to zap people or go hunting for bison and deer. There’s optical illusions, venetian mirrors, logic puzzles and plenty to keep you and the kids entertained. Always ones to keep on-the-ball, there’s also a constant twirl of temporary exhibits – running until October is a special interactive exhibition for the blind. You can even (for an extra fee) take a Mensa IQ test here. The Experymentarium can open at 09:00 by prior arrangement.
Admission 14-16/11-12zł, family ticket 30-48zł (10zl for groups of ten or more).
