Poznań Station
picture credit: www.pkp.plThe Polish rail network is coming in for some much needed investment after years of neglect. While track improvements are ongoing (and delay inducing), there is now a massive station modernization program underway which will see 40 stations either modernized or rebuilt at a cost of 980 million zloty over 5 years. In Poznan the current site is to be completely redeveloped at a cost of 160 million zloty which will ultimately see a new state-of-the-art station forming the centre of an Integrated Transport Centre incorporating a rail, bus, tram and road hub. The development will feature 6 platforms including 3 located underneath a brand new station which will host a shopping mall and car parking for 900 cars. The station itself is due to be finished in time for Euro 2012 with work continuing on phase two after that time. The original station located on ul. Głogowska which dates from 1879 will be demolished as part of the development.
