Dear IYP, We really love you magazine and try to find one in every place we visit! Our car broke down and we are stuck in Poznan (Poland) for two days. Yesterday we’ve tried Buda Bar and it was absolutely great. So was the hotel Andersia with modern, well equipped, spacy and perfectly clean room. The disappointing part was La Scala today. Food, actually, was pretty ok even though we did expect bit more (considering the price level). But it was probably our first time when waiters tried to cheat us that badly.First strange thing was to get bottled Vittel in the glass (we did not even had a chance to see a bottle). Considering what happened afterwards, I can bet it was tap water sold as Vittel. Then we asked for the wine list and the waiter said it is the only one white wine they have (in the Italian restaurant!).But the real fun begun when we have asked for the bill. It was a surprise to see “+10% service fee” added to the bill - it is pretty uncommon thing in this part of the Ocean. We gave a credit card and I have double-checked if the service was added (as initially we were intending to tip the water). Lady confirmed it was but immediately came back saying that they do not accept credit cards (it was in the the wooden box). To our question how could it be, she answered “Did you see any sticker on the door that we accept credit cards?” (we sat outside). Then (thanks to your note about tipping with credit card), I smelled she’s trying to make “tip” obligatory and asked for the menu to check if there is “10% service fee” in it. There was no such a thing. I have asked if she is sure we’ can’t pay with credit card. Waiter, obviously, felt that we have noticed that something is not ok and suddenly said that “the CC terminal is broken” but she can make “a discount” and do not take service fee. We had 220 zlotys only (the bill was 228 zlotys including 20 zlotys for jar of plain water, fee on top), but she seemed to be happy with those 220 zlotys in the end of the day. Unfortunately we forgot to ask for the official bill (as we got only hand written bloknote sheet). Ironically, she would have get her tip even for mediocre service if not that rude cheating attempt. I hope you find this comment helpful, lnga
