What's hot, What's not

It is unusual that we have anything to write about in the winter edition of Gdansk In Your Pocket particularly on the new front. So maybe it is a sign of Sopot’s renaissance that this winter we have a flood of new places popping up while there is just one, albeit very serious, casualty.

First the closure. After 10 years and countless memorable nights, the Language Pub closed its doors in August 2010. At press time it stood empty with no word at all as to what will happen to it. A sad passing it has to be said. For those used to LP as the place to watch live football Immersion, just off the main drag, seems to be the place taking up the slack.

Onto more positive news. The completion of the new Haffner Centre has seen Avocado, Unique and White House all open their doors since last time. With 3 restaurants & bars and 2 clubs between them, the competition in this sector of the market has hotted right up and the coming months are sure to see some battle as these and the existing places compete for the smaller winter market.

On a final note the historic and recently refurbished 16th century Dwor Hispanski (The Spanish Manor) on Al. Niepodlegosci was busy preparing for the mid-December opening of Cucina Toscana. Italian owned and run, we are promised a restaurant, pizzeria and wine bar using the secrets and authentic ingredients of real Tuscan cooking. We’ll be sure to have this place fully reviewed by our spring issue.
