Sopot was the home of the Polish champions and Euroleague members Prokom Sopot, who won five consecutive Polish championships between 2004 and 2008. That is it was until the team upped and moved to neighbouring Gdynia to become Prokom Gdynia and now Asseco Prokom Gdynia. Not to be snubbed, Trefl Sopot reformed and also play in the top Polish basketball division where they’ve finished runners-up once and third most recently in 2014. Watch out for the games when Sopot play Gdynia as these have that extra bit of spice. The first stage of the league begins in October and moves into a second league stage in February. Sopot play their home games in the excellent Ergo Arena and are unquestionably Sopot’s sporting pride with city mayor Jacek Karnowski a visible and vocal supporter.
