Already a favourite with the beatniks and thesps there’s more to Lalala than weird decorations and alternative bands. The menu here is an absolute hit, and as varied as the playwrights and poets who head here. Try the burger with bacon and brie for a between beer stopgap, or check out their Mexican offerings (burritos and fajitas) for something a little more exotic – they won’t nuke you by any means, but they’re certainly better than the region's more dismal Mexicans. Stick to the pierogi if you’re feeling traditionalist, but more importantly make sure you stick around when you finish your feed – there’s something special happening in this venue, and it’s cult status looks set to last a while.

A triple decked restobar with a sharp orange motif prevailing throughout. The menu is short and to the point, featuring soups to start with, and a very good duck with cranberry and apple. Sink into the big, puffy cushions afterwards and watch the local sexcats descend as day morphs into night.

It’s modern Mediterranean with a fusion angle inside Peyjro, a metropolitan space with a modern look accentuated by hardwood floors and black and red colours. The food looks good and tastes even better, with dishes like pork in teriyaki arriving swiftly from an open kitchen that fizzes with activity.

This must be what royalty feels like. Set inside a Viennese style hall this classy spot has to be one of the most elegant dining rooms in town, complete with swooning palms and lamps designed by Patricia Urquiola. Everything here is five star, with head chef Jacek Fedde the brainbox behind a truly masterful menu. Aside from you’re a la carte options you’ll find regular steak evenings held and, better still, the opportunity to enjoy the ‘chef’s table’; call a day in advance and you’ll have the undivided attention of Fedde himself, plus a nine course menu tailor-made to suit your palette. Star treatment indeed.

Versalka looks like just about all the other neighbouring eateries that have bloomed with the opening of the new entertainment compound on Monte Cass; sharp, modern, half-lounge, half-eatery. The difference in this white clad spot is the cooking – head chef here is a fella called Robert Mazur, and his school report includes stints in a string of Michelin starred restaurants across Britain. His experience is put to good effect with a good looking almost fusion-style menu that covers a medley of global cuisines, and dishes that could be works of art themselves – and not pricey either. Highly recommended, with an equally well executed club area upstairs.

Trust the Sheraton to stir up the local dinner scene. During the week find a design space offering duck to die for and surf-and-turf dishes you just won’t find anywhere else. Come weekend it’s Sunday brunch, a top-notch experience and marvellous opportunity to eat and drink like a Tsar. [...]

So what if Gdynia has a Charlie Chaplin theme restaurant - Sopot's got Woody, so named after a certain Mr Allen, and decorated with him in mind. Still yet to pick up business at press time, here's one more venue looking to cover all bases with a restobar operation and a DJ at night. The foods decent enough, with pastas, salads and a scattering of meat dishes.
