Sen Pszczoły

During the early hours of January 30th, 2013 Praga lost one of its greatest nightspots and cultural centres to fire. Sen Pszczoły (‘The Bee's Dream’) was housed on the ground floor and basement area of a beautiful pre-war listed tenement building in the heart of old Praga at ul. Inżynierska 3. The blaze decimated the entire building and as the mainly wooden interior burned, fire-fighters feared the whole structure would collapse. The club, which opened in 2009, was at the forefront of the rejuvenation of Praga as Warsaw's arty area. Concerts, performances, courtyard exhibitions, outdoor film screenings and two great bars attracted people to the 'culture club' from near and far. The building also contained artist's studios and the Remus Theatre. Many of Warsaw's young generation of artists including, Nicolas Grospierre, Ivo Nikic and Karol Radziszewski, lost much of their work and materials in the blaze. The Warsaw arts community was quick to react and at the end of March a charity art auction was organised to raise money for those who had lost a significant part of their artistic output. One devastated painter lost an archive going back 20 years! The fire broke out on one of the upper levels of the tenement and the club itself was destroyed by falling debris and the flooding caused by extinguishing the horrific blaze. Thankfully, nobody was in the building at the time. Not content to sit back in a state of 'dazed & confused,’ Sen Pszczoły's owners quickly set about looking for a new 'bee-hive'. Until the end of this year they will be temporarily located in the 19th century Koneser vodka distillery buildings at ul. Ząbkowska 27/31. Regular events, concerts and club nights are already in full swing. Buzz along and show your support for this enthusiastic and unstoppable cultural initiative.
