American Bookstore

American Bookstore
For so long an expat staple, American Bookstore has conquered Warsaw with their web of stores. An excellent shop, though one with a stock heavily influenced by the bestsellers list and Lonely Planet guides. Also at ul. Powsińska 31 (Mokotów, Sadyba Best Mall), ul. Wołoska 12 (Galeria Mokotów) and ul. Jana Pawła II 82 (Arkadia).

Well....the 1st time I went to this bookstore at Galeria Mokotow....I could find 3 novels from my fave authors. But when it came to bring the books to the cashier I felt lilbit dissapointed. I asked the girl do they have a collection of one author n she didnt answer me. And then she said the amount of my purchase in Polish.I didnt understand Polish at all.And when I ask for repeat she showed me the cash register machine.I think she couldnt speak in English??This is American bookstore n the staff couldnt speak English?? What a pity! N maybe more smile please!

I stopped at the store on Nowy Swiat on a Saturday in May. My companion asked for a mystery book by an American author and the attendant immediately took her to the shelf where this author's books are housed. I found another that I really liked. Our service was all in English and the store clerk was as polite or perhaps more polite than similar persons I encounter in the States.

This shop appears to be a good English language bookshop with loads of books and a wide selection of other reading materials however I've always found the staff to be rude or angry and downright discourtious. Also don't bother trying to use the "American Bookshop" discount card they offer as it cannot be used on magazines Warsaw In Your Pocket Special offers discounted books 3 for 1 travel books etc etc etc.

Once and actually my first experience in that bookstore was not a good start! The customer service is really poor they are not willingly to assist the customer since than I barely go there

I recommend Redding's (used and new) bookstore in the underground of BUW (Warsaw University Library). They have a great, cheap selection, can order books for you if you like, offer mostly used, but also some new arrivals as well. Most importantly the couple who owns the store is very nice and always has time to chat about books or other matter and makes you feel comfortable. American Bookstore is like a fast food chain of literature!:)

Avoid this shop if you can! There must surely be alternative shops in Warsaw selling English books. Usually the staff is just useless, but today they were also rude! I was aggressively requested to leave their store in Galleria Mokotow because my 16 months daughter was moving plastic chairs around. I will never be back there and will tell all my friends to avoid them.

Plenty of books, fresh supplies all the time. However, customer service has no translation in the language these guys speak. I got there a few minutes before the closing time and I got a cold invitation to come the next day, as the girl at the counter was too busy closing. My argument that I walked that far to get a book got me nowhere. Go there, but take patience.
