The transformation of Melanz from tasteless pop kitsch sick-bag to savvy pop art culture club was a subtle one, but has done wonders for our opinion of the place. The faux-Lichtenstein posters and zebra prints remain, but a bevvy of retro wallpaper patterns, stylish silk-screened murals and graphic art has somehow contributed a previously lacking level of consistency to the brilliant visual clash of the decor. The atmosphere is absolutely silly, with a young crowd practicing dance-floor buffoonery to an old school playlist of fondly remembered one-hit wonders, as lasers assault the retinas of everyone in the bar. Absurd, obnoxious and a lot more fun than we would previously admit.
