Arriving by car

The massive roadworks that continue to hinder travel between Kraków and Zakopane, and that will eventually herald the birth of the magnificent Zakopianka highway in 2013, make driving between the two cities to save time only really worth thinking about if planning on exploring other parts of the region in a car. The currently completed sections of dual carriageway offer a glimpse into a road that plans to cut journey time from two hours to 45 minutes, but, thanks to the inevitable bottlenecking and scores of traffic lights needed to assist the road’s completion, no time as yet has been shaved off the journey. For the time being, follow route 7 south out of Kraków to Chabówka and head along route 47 until you arrive in Zakopane.
