Vast, glorious and the best place in Zakpane to go for that bugger-the-expense last night meal. In summer sharpen your elbows to stake claim for a ringside seat looking down on the high street, and if that doesn’t work out then head inside to dine in sight of a giant waterwheel and hollering band. The menu is impressive, with great borscht for starters, and platters of animals to finish you off. In a town not short of atmospheric joints, this place tops the lot, and best of all if you’ve tonked back too many vodkas then why not book a room upstairs – the hotel is every bit as good.
