This flat, owned by Vaclav Havel's grandfather, was one of the places in which Havel lived. He was arrested first in 1978 and sentenced to four and a half years in prison. On his release he lived here but was kept under constant surveillance by the secret police who took up more or less permanent residence in the tower across the road. He went to prison again for nine months in 1989.
