I went on a one day trek summer 2011 with a friend which was fantastic. We were only in Brasov for a short while and gave very short notice....
Zoo
You think this is bad? Check out Craiova Zoo! Lions, tigers, brown bears, jaguars and more all sitting in tiny cages, some no bigger than a linen closet; rancid meat and faeces stink out the entire exhibit....
Zoo
sorry to differ with the author but the Brazov zoo is heinous, from its smell to its living conditions....
What to see in and around Brasov
Tweet
There is much to see and do in
Brasov
. From a ride on the cable car that lurches high above the city to the more earthly pleasures of the
Black Church
, there is more to see here than in almost all other cities in Romania.
There is also plenty do see outside of Brasov, in
the towns and villages of the surrounding area
, such as
Bran
(home to
Dracula's Castle
),
Rasnov
and the
fortified churches
at
Prejmer
and
Harman
.

Essential Brasov
Ever since the Saxon settlers arrived in the early 12th century, invading Mongols, Turks and others gave them a tough time, repeatedly destroying the old settlements of Bartholoma and Corona.

Museums
One of Romania's best art museums, and well worth the cheap admission price. The upper floor is a who's who of Romanian 20th century painting, with all the big names, including Theodor Pallady, Nicolae Grigorescu, Stefan Luchian and Horia Bernea well represented.

Around Brasov
One of Eastern Europe’s best preserved fortified churches lies 16km northeast of Brasov. Surrounding a cross-shaped church (originally built by the Teutonic knights) are walls 12m high and 4m thick that protected the church and Prejmer’s inhabitants during times of war, when each family would retreat into its own room.

Around Brasov
Absolutely not Dracula’s Castle, Bran really does look the part, as though it ought to be Dracula’s Castle. The truth is that Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Ţepeş) - the inspiration behind part of the Dracula myth - never spent much time here.
