Everything you want from a city-centre eatery and a lot more. This is in fact more bistro than anything, serving breakfast, lunch and evening meals in fresh, bright surroundings. The selection of morning pastries is the best in the city, with office workers going out of their way to stop here for fresh supplies. For lunch there is a range of sandwiches hard to beat anywhere else, and the small selection of hot meals of an evening - the menu changes daily - are perfect for a casual dinner. Serving great coffee and a magnificent hot chocolate, we (and our kids!) love this place.

Brasserie
A genuine brasserie, offering food from an ever-changing menu (theme weeks based on seasonal vegetables or meats are a feature) in a casual yet gently refined atmosphere. Known to many regulars as 'the posh bit of the Hilton's cafe', the sweet counter here offers the kind of treats that will guiltily have you asking the waiter for an application form to join the Hilton's gym. The word legend is overused in this town: this is one of few Bucharest eateries that genuinely deserves the moniker. [...]

Casa Vernescu
Before the food, there is the villa: built in the 1880s it is an eclectic mix of styles that has been impressively preserved over the years. The restaurant inside has quite a job living up to the surroundings, but with the cooking in the hands of one of the country's best chefs, it does so with ease. Goose liver with truffles, sea bass marinated in Pernod, chocolate and orange mousse: mouthwatering combinations every one. Considered (not without reason) to be expensive, this is a wonderful place to eat and for what you get in terms of ambiance, service and food, you are getting your money's worth.

Bucharest foodies: this is the place you have been waiting for. A sensational French restaurant where the love and care the chef has for his food oozes onto your plate. French Bakery Le Restaurant
It had to happen. A French restaurant that actually delivers the goods time after time yet does so in an atmosphere that begs you to spend more time here. The menu features a number of simple, new-wave French cuisine which - for this city - is very well-priced. The tasty duck dishes stood out for us, as did the desserts and the excellent wine list which - while featuring a great list of French grape - for once acknowledges that the New World can make decent wine too. In short, this place a mini-revolution on the Bucharest dining scene and worthy of your time.

Heritage
There is still something of a mistaken idea amongst Bucharest gourmands that Heritage is a fitze kind of place, frequented by the sunglasses crowd and such like. Let us assure you it is not. It is quite simply one of Bucharest's best restaurants, and as such attracts a mixed crowd of people who like fantastic food in a classy atmosphere, be they business partners, or families enjoying a weekend dinner. Prices are not as high as you might think, and given the standard of the food you are guaranteed value for money.

Imagine, if you will, franchised Italian trattorias. You know, pretend there aren't enough dodgy Italians in Bucharest and that what we need is 'the first Paparazzi bistro in Romania'. That's what we have here. Featuring such classy dishes as 'Romanian fried eggs' and 'Paparazzi schnitzel' we can only hope that this 'first Paparazzi bistro in Bucharest' remains the only Paparazzi bistro in Bucharest. Traiteur Petit Heritage
What you might call Heritage-light, this is a less formal version of top-people's restaurant of the same name, though where you can still get the same excellent, high quality food that has been the hallmark of Heritage for years. With an eye on the lucrative Dorobanti breakfast, lunchtime and after work market, we think that they are on to something here. And make a note: you can take it all away, perfect for impressing guests without doing any actual cooking... [...]
