El Torito

Consistently the best Tex-Mex in Bucharest. Everything is done as it should be: spicy, tasty but free of frills. Expect the biggest and best burrittos in the city, topped with lashings of tangy cheese; sizzlingly hot fajitas, no fewer than eight types of taco and - best of all - that splendid Mexican staple so often forgotten or passed over as being dull: cream of corn soup. The super nachos are worth trying too: filled with ground beef the portion is big enough to serve as a main course. In fact, beware: all the portions here are supersized. Though you would be a fool to forego a nosh here, if you just fancy a drink at the bar nobody seems to mind. Let the margaritas and the mojitos flow.

Wonderful food and service. I took my Romanian hosts there after finding this website through In Your Pocket. Had to go back the next day!

I'm from Texas and my mother is Mexican. The food was the best attempt at Mexican cuisine I have tried so far but I wouldn't let that get your hopes up too high. Fantastic and truly authentic? No. Decent? Yes. Very pricey place as well.

Perhaps the most important fact about El Torito is that the first editor of Bucharest In Your Pocket lived in this small villa with Belgian flatmate Barbara in 1999-2000. Then it was very run down, gas-heated (in winter only sleeping in the basement was manageable, and the owner came in from her house across the street to light the heating early mornings) and had a small yapping dog tied to the tree in the courtyard. There weren't any Mexican restaurants in Bucharest back then. In Your Pocket's current Sales Director is know to have danced in the kitchen.

Absolutely agree with jbird , pretty close to authentic mexican , quite a change from the same old meals around town , sangria was a bit disappointing though , but if you want something different , give it a try , wont disappoint

Coming from southern California and having my fair share of Mexican food in Mexico, I can say this resturant is a welcome treat and not your normal Romanian attempt at ethnic foods. The last I was there, there was no ciorba on the menu! A bit pricey, but well worth the cost if you like Mexican food.
