La Mama

La MamaNot exactly a Romanian McDonald's - after all, this is hardly fast food - though this is a chain of cheap restaurants which all look the same and all serve the same food. Expect big portions of standard Romanian food - they do good mici and the musaka is usually OK - but nothing too adventurous, as well as cheap beer and a fight for a table: these restaurants are very popular and the busiest locations require reservations, especially at lunchtime.

The service was so bad that I had to wait 30 minutes without being served anything. I asked several waiters to take my order, but they did not seem to care. Further down there was a UK couple who were also not served. They left and so did I. Expect ZERO service. To be avoided unless you have eaten beforehand.

A Decent lunch with mediocre service. After being seated we waited a good 20 minutes before being approached by a rather unhappy unlpeasant waiter. This was on July 25th 2008. Seasoned tourist from Florida

I would rather use the word "inexpensive." The food is good. So, allright, it's not "haute cuisine" but it is tasty and not splodge.Whatever that is. In warm weather one of the reasons it is so popular is the outdoor seating. This may change now the "Il Calcio" has opened in place of "Cina" with their own outdoor seating. La Mama needs a little honest competition.

Its alright for an introduction to romanian food I suppose, Vatra is much better.

La Mama? Delicious? Maybe only if one fancies a "traditional" Mc Donald's with wooden tables, but nothing more. Better try some tripe soup La Berbecu', some ciorba at Nicoresti or the mici at Vatra. La Mama used to be a nice place, until they got famous. Now they are just another restaurant full of the office people working in the area, of those staying at the Hilton and daring not walk any farther, respectively of tourist groups hooked there by uninspired travel agents aiming at the cheap (indeed!) dishes. Bleah.

The food there is delicious! Better than anything you will find in London or Paris by far!

All true, yet better than McDonalds, especially late-night.
