The Black Cock is - as you would expect from a name like that - big and brash, with modern Italian cuisine dominating a varied and inventive menu. For proof that there is an after-life for standard Italian food, this is a reasonable place to come.

Gallo Nero comments

Based on the relatively short menu I had some hopes for Gallo Nero, but the place is a definite no-no. I thought the chef had chosen a few Italian classics and learned to cook them well, but the tomato soup is made of canned tomato paste, the saltimbocca alla romana consists of fried fillets of pork covered with ham and swimming in a vinegar-based gravy, the filleto al gorgonzola is actually beef in sour cream sauce, and the panna cota is Dr. Oetker vanilla pudding in strawberry jam. Why would this be when the right ingredients – sage for saltimbocca alla romana, gorgonzola cheese for filetto alla gorgonzola and cream for panna cota - are not that difficult to find?
