Shopping in Bucharest
Bucharest’s main shopping areas are the shopping centres listed
here, as well as B-dul Magheru and Calea Victoriei. The overall shopping experience remains lousy, however, and if you’ve come to Bucharest for the shopping you are in for a nasty shock. Still, there are plenty of places to buy souvenirs, and if that special someone is demanding you bring back something Romanian, here are a few ideas...
Romanian MonopolyFeatures the streets and districts of Bucharest (placing Primaverii in place of Mayfair). It can be bought for around 60.00 lei in good toy and book stores.
Romanian Folk Costumes & SouvenirsAll of the handicraft shops listed
here sell some kind of folk costume, though perhaps the best places to find such items is the museum shop of the
National Peasant Museum.
Steaua Bucharest football shirtsOfficial shirts of Romania’s most successful club can be bought from Nike outlets in the Bucuresti Mall, Orhideea and Unirea. Unofficial versions can be bought from the Steaua shop on Str. Brezoianu.
Unlike most Eastern bloc countries, Soviet and communist memorabilia is scarce in Romania. Old Romanian or communist party flags, however, are available at the HighQ printshop at the entrance to Orhideea, while for other momentos you should try the many antique shops in the Lipscani area.
