The photos that adorn the walls may invoke Paris, but the food does not. It is Romanian/International, and though there is some vaguely French food on the menu, such as Bordelaise mushrooms and the onion soup, there's also smoem very ordinary spaghetti and schnitzel too. It is not a bad lunchtime choice for a group of indecisive friends, but note the smoking section is as smoky as hell and service can be a little, you know, s l o w.

No expense has been spared in the fitting out of this restaurant, and for once we have been spared the grotesque kitschness that characterises most places of the 'luxury' genre. Instead we have sublime decor then, and great service. It is a little too soon to get carried away with the food, [...]

Flying the flag of great fusion cuisine for quite some time now (eight years and counting) this exquisite restaurant that disproves the myth that great hotels do not make for great restaurants. Entering this place - situated on the mezzanine floor of the JW Marriott - is a joy in itself, the design cutting edge and the staff eager to keep you happy. The regularly changing menu makes it difficult to make specific reccomendations, though we have always been tempted by the fish and seafood dishes (of which there are always plenty to choose from) and have never been disappointed. With what is the plummest of plum locations on Piata Unirii, Festival 39 makes good use of it by offering plenty seats out on a terrace, though at this time of year the warm, cosy armchairs by the window in the main part of the restaurant are far more appealing. While the original F39, up in Brasov, was a mere cafe and bar, the Bucharest version serves up good food - try the chicken kebabs served with huge salads - alongside the cocktails and coffees. The idea of the original: to create an other worldly type of place far from the madding crowd - has just about been transferred successfully to the Bucharest franchise. [...]

The latest restaurant to open up in the Old Town. Found in the same building as the cracking new Austria Cafe, In Vino Veritas offers a decent selection of local and imported wines (as it shoudl given the name) alongside well-prepared, presented and served - is less than imaginative - international cuisine. At this time of year the wine cellar is a good place to hide from the wind and rain.

Intricately decorated with plenty of dark wood and early 20th century objets d'art, Menuet is a good place to go after seeing a performance at the nearby Atheneum, and has a quiet, lazy French-like atmosphere. What that can also mean is that service can be a little on the slow side. As for the food, you'll find the usual international menu with nothing awe inspiring to recommend, but everything is well cooked. [...]

Tucked away on a quite side street close to Universiatate, this is upmarket Romanian food with a vaguely Spanish twist (as it should be given that the owners arethe same as Salsa 3). The  lamb chops are a rare - if a little pricey - treat while all the beef dishes appear to come lace [...]

Uptown indeed. In the wealthiest part of the wealthiest part of the city, the city's wealthiest people come here to eat. The real draw is the enclosed terrace which means you can eat al fresco when when it's snowing outside. The food is good, a mix of Italian-esque and modern European dishes, which share a menu with an excellent wine list. Prices not cheap but value for money very high. Make sure you reserve well in advance or turn up with a local celebrity if you want a table on the terrace.
