Eating and drinking in Suzdal

Given that Suzdal is a small Russian town, there is obviously not a great amount of excitement going on in the local dining scene. Generally you can choose from Russian cuisine or Russian cuisine, which can often be hit and miss. Don't be surprised if on a weekday in low season you find yourself eating alone in 90-seater restaurant with the attendant staff happily watching soap operas on the TV in the background. It's not all bad though, there are some solid options here and you will find that everything is refreshingly cheap compared to Moscow or St. Petersburg.

The bars that do exist in Suzdal have a distinctly 'local' atmosphere which may be intimidating or amusing depending on how drunk the patrons are. Either way an absolute must on a visit to Suzdal is a trip to the Mead tasting hall, where you can try out different recipes of the local mead 'medovukha'.
