The only drawback is that paintings, icons and basically anything over 100 years old cannot be taken out of the country. If the object is between 50 and 100 years, it may be possible with permission from the Cultural Security Department (Rosokhrankultura) rosohrancult.ru/, Ul. Malaya Morskaya 17. They're open from 11:00 - 17:00 tel. 571 03 02. Depending on the value of the item, you may be permitted to export it. Enquire at the shop while buying as to whether they can arrange permission for you.
