Moscow's Bolshoi theatre might be the big name in Russian ballet, but it's impossible to consider the Kirov company of the Mariinsky any less impressive.  The Mikhailovsky Theatre is a not-so-distant second for grandeur and skill and for an intimate performance in the most romantic and historical of settings, the Imperial Hermitage Theatre can't be beat.
