Parisian photographer Alexandra Kremer-Khomasuridze has been travelling around the world with some of the best known musicians and conductors. No she’s not some classical music groupie. Lights, camera, action! Paris based fashion historian Alexander Vasileev brings more of his unique collection of vintage film photography to St Petersburg this month. After a successful visit earlier this year (focusing on Russian Hollywood sirens), the emphasis this time is on Russian involvement in Hollywood between the 1920s and 1960s. Film stills from classic films such as Dr Zhivago and Anna Karenina as well as portraits of Russian stars of the silver screen ooze glamour and romance. [...]

ROJO is an achingly hip Spanish magazine that supports some of the most innovative and colourful graphic artists working today. This small exhibition will show selected works of the artists who took part in the magazine’s poster series project. The large works on display are by turns psychedelic and utilitarian, childish and comedic featuring everything from print and collage to paint and sketch. [...]

Local modern artist Peter Shvetsov is concerned with all things dark and murky – death, fears, shadows and decay. This exhibition explores the theme of the marsh. St. Petersburg itself of course is built on a marsh and Shvetov’s brutal, chaotic pictures depict what it once may have looked like. His seemingly wet canvases drip darkness and mould and portrays effectively the endless gloom of the average swamp. [...]

More a project than an exhibition, the institute of the new man is a newly formed art group that wants to facilitate dialogue between new local artists and their more established counterparts. The institute plans to screen films, hold concerts and organise meetings with art theorists. On Saturdays new pictures will be chosen for display with more famous local artists such as Gennady Zubkov and Vladimir Kustov giving way for unknown new artists. [...]

This exhibition has been put together as a love poem to contemporary Italy. Covering all aspects of Italian life through the past 60 years, these photographs represent those iconic images that one can’t help but remember. There are adverts for Benetton, playful classical renaissance inspired photographs, images of rural life reminiscent of the Godfather, shots of Italian sportsmen and of course plenty of versions of la bella donna.
