Korchma Salo

Korchma Salo
This quaint cave-like dwelling, impressively reminiscent of a Ukrainian house, certainly has an authentic feel to it. The food tastes homemade, in a good way, and the prices are very affordable. Fans of lard won’t be disappointed as there is more than a page of salo to tickle your fancy. More hesitant diners will also be taken care of. The extensive menu includes Kiev chicken, which is reminiscent of a North American turkey diner, various pies and simple and succulent vareniki (fruit dumplings).

Good honest food.My friend and I went here for the first time last week, and it made me wonder why it took me so long to come here since noticing the restaurant several months ago. The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from a Ukrainian restaurant - - a folksy, cellar-like grotto with a roving troupe of folk singers. The food did not disappoint, either. We had borscht, vareniki with trout, and chicken Kiev. We decided to pass on the several variations of salo (rendered fat), the house specialty. To say we were stuffed and comforted by the home style cooking would be an understatement. I vowed to double my time in the gym after that meal. It's great comfort food, but not a good place for a diet.
