Don’t be put off by the dark, tinted windows, this seafood restaurant has excellent food and good service. Roma the parrot and the ship-shaped bar create genuine seafaring atmosphere, and the salmon, mussel and shrimp dishes are excellent. It’s not all fish though. There are good pasta dishes too. The basket of assorted pirogy (pies) is fantastic and you can usually live classical music in the evening from 20:00 to 23:00, except Sundays. [...]

Need a break from strolling around the city? This modern restaurant/cafe is a good place for a healthy lunch or filling dinner. The price-quality ratio is very good, and the service is fast. We liked the Russian shchi (cabbage soup) with duck. The huge foam cap on the cappuccino makes it irresistib [...]

The farmhouse theme here extends from having a barn sized interior with plants, ceramic cows and chickens cluttering all available shelving space and a menu crammed full of fresh leafy salads, hearty soups and large excellent value pizzas made in a real stone oven. Their desserts menu is particularly interesting with a pizza topped with chocolate, fruits and cream, taking its place next to the usual tiramisu and ice-cream. The dishes are well executed, the fish is particularly fresh and service is a lot more sophisticated than your average country bumpkin would expect.

Step down into the cellar and try not to laugh at the crocodile lamps and coat hooks in the said restaurant theme. We didn’t try their whisky but we must admit we are big fans of their diablo salad and have been gobbling up their chicken wings with their soy and sesame sauce ever since our first visit. Finger licking good, that’s what we have to say. Affordable and tasty, what else could you want? Well perhaps a tiny bit closer to a metro. [...]

This little lion, two bounding leaps from the metro, is a downright cosy place. The assemblage of bric-a-brac and lion fixtures (including one king-of-the-jungle wearing Dior sunglasses) survey you as you tuck into some large portions of home-style Russi [...]

As soon as you walk in, you can’t help feeling at home - the entrance is actually just like a family kitchen. Staff are efficient and endearing. The interior is stylish and tasteful, with black table and chairs and long bench seating down the back. Quite spacious, there are three dining areas, the main floor, and two smaller areas beyond the kitchen and in the hall. They have drawing pencils and paper for kids, cartoon figures from Russian cartoons on the walls, bookshelves, toys and plants, flowers on every tableall contributing to a very family friendly atmosphere. Russian cuisine is on offer as well as a great breakfast selection and a well thought out childrens menu - all of which is tastefully prepared and presented.

Where once a Soviet-style buffet stood, an aristocratic looking restaurant has opened its doors. Amid the aristocratic ambience they serve Russian dishes for very democratic prices catered for by the Grand Hotel Europe. The solyanka meat soup is superb and the lamb dish is not a bad choice either. We can’t advise anyone to order the Russian wine unless you prefer to completely sour your tastebuds. Just pay 50Rbl more for the French like the real Russian aristocrats did. It will make your day. Entrance via Philharmonic [...]

Although it's quite a walk from the metro, this quiet, stylish restaurant is well worth the stroll. A chic brown, cream and red interior lends this trendy cafe its name. By day Plush has a positively chilled-out atmosphere whereas by night it feels more like a cocktail bar with live DJs and art films projected onto the walls. Aimed squarely at calorie-counting fashionistas, the menu favours light meals – sushi, pasta dishes, salads and soups plus a few meatier dishes for those with a marginally larger appetite. [...]

St. Petersburg is boldly going where no other Russian city has gone before with the opening of this high-tech ‘virtual entertainment’ centre. Sitting in what feels like a spaceship you are surrounded by 3-D walls which present your journey into outer-space. Continuing with the futuristic theme you can order food and drinks from the computers positioned on every table and then funny robots come and bring them to you. Ok, the bit about the robots wasn’t true, but this is possibly one of the most unusual dining experiences currently going in the city.
