S-Hertogenbosch

Act like a local

more than a year ago
Here are some helpful hints and guidelines about local habits and behaviour. Some apply to the Netherlands in general and the province Brabant while others are truly typical of 's-Hertogenbosch. Get used to them. In lesson 1 we give you advice about the second most important thing in life: ordering a beer like the locals do.

If the Dutch order a 'pint', it's actually only a 25cl glass. That's not even half as much as a London pint! A vaas (vase) is a 33cl glass, though. If you want show off don't just order a Heineken (or whatever's on the draught). Ask for a pilsje or a glaasje. A fluitje is even better. You'll get exactly the same beer, only in a different glass than the tourist sitting next to you.
