If there is one word to describe the annual Guca trumpet festival it is 'deafening'. Fifty brass bands compete for the coveted Golden Trumpet award while many more liven up the make-shift bars and restaurants. Over half a million visitors descend annually onto this small town near Cacak, a four-hour bus-drive south west of Belgrade.
An important part of the five day festival is the food. Little piglets and even entire cows are roasted over open fires and swilled down with local beer. The Brass Band Festival in Guca is definitely one of the quirkiest music festivals in Europe. The next Guca madness will be held from 5 -9 August 2009.
