The Ljubljana Jazz Festival traditionally features some of the world's leading names in jazz and attracts music lovers from home and abroad.

This year, on its 50th anniversary, the Festival will host a large number of the best known names in contemporary jazz. It will open with a concert and exhibition by Han Bennink and close with an evening with John Zorn, one of the most valued and respected musicians and composers of the last three decades, who will share the stage with some of the biggest names in New York jazz.

Other artists to make an appearance at the 50th Ljubljana Jazz Festival include the famous Roscoe Mitchell and his Chicago Quartet, the Powerhouse Sound ensemble with Ken Vandermark and two members of the avant-rock band Tortoise, the legendary Louis Moholo, the only living member of the South African jazz sextet Blue Notes, and his group Viva La Black joined by Keith and Julie Trippett, the Satoko Fujii ma-do Quartet, Japan's leading jazz ensemble, and many others.

During the festival a number of non-concert events will also take place in conjunction with the festivities, including presentations by record companies, round table discussions and art exhibitions. The focal point for most of these events will be the CD Club at Cankarjev Dom, which will also open a special Jazz Restaurant where visitors can mingle with various performers, journalists and other guests every day from 10:00 until 3:00 the following morning.
