Gostilna Frida

This large restaurant lies on the main road between Planica and Italy (a few kilometres west of Kranjska Gora). The deserted Italian and Austrian borders are merely de jure boundaries these days, the whole area a heady mix of Slavic, Germanic and Romanic influences and people. Fittingly the menu we got was in Slovene, German and Italian, but not English. The fusion of influences continues with the cuisine and the building itself; it’s also a pizzeria, and the décor inside is purely alpine. Slightly bizarrely for a restaurant, we were asked to pay at the bar.
