Ljubljana

Urbana Card

more than a year ago

In order to use Ljubljana’s extensive public bus network, you must first purchase an Urbana Card. What is an Urbana card, we hear you cry? Available from the Urbanomat machines (the green things next to many bus stops), LPP office, tourist information centres and most of the kiosks and post offices in town. This little yellow card costs €2 and can store up to €50 of credit on it at any time. In order to top it up, you can do so at any of the above mentioned purchases spots. These machines accept both cash and credit and debit cards. Once you’ve topped up your card, using it couldn’t be easier. Simply get on the bus of your choice, touch the card to one of the green card readers at the entrance and €1.30 will be deducted from your card, €1.30 which allows for up to 90 minutes of travel including unlimited transfers. The Urbana works in much the same way as London’s Oyster Card and Paris’ Navigo Pass, at a fraction of the price of course.

Hello, can you use the Urbana card to pay for the bus from Ljubljana to the Postojna Cave? The site for the Postojna Cave says there is a bus that takes you from Ljubljana to the cave car park, but I'm not sure if it's a LPP city bus we will need to take or a different bus line? And if so, where to purchase bus tickets? Thanks! [Editor's Note: You can buy tickets for all intercity buses from the driver.]

I will be going to Ljubljana and will make use of the P+R facilities. We will be 5 people in all. Would that mean that we each have to purchase a separate Urbana card or we could make use of one card and credit the card accordingly?

I wonder what happens with the amount left on the urban card because of leaving Ljubiljana... [Editor's note: As far as we know there are no refunds but there's no expiry of the balance if you ever make another visit.]
