Abecedarium

Half café-bar, half international restaurant, this lovely 1528 building is believed to be the oldest house in the city. Other claims to its fame and fortune are the fact that some 30 years later the father of Slovenian literature Primož Trubar (1508-1586), who wrote the first book to be printed in Slovenian (Abecedarium), lived under this very roof. The Protestant reformer-author, who also wrote the first complete Slovenian translation of the New Testament, would no doubt be horrified at the changes to the building with its striped blue and white chairs and young, liberal clientele. During the summer the terrace is a nice place to sit and drink.
